Kalonzo Warns ODM Against Striking Deal with UDA

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has cautioned ODM Party against entering into a pre-election coalition agreement with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), warning that such a move would fundamentally betray the ideals championed by the late Raila Odinga.

Kalonzo argued that ODM and UDA do not share a common political vision and questioned the credibility of claims that the two parties could now work together ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He reminded ODM supporters of President Ruto’s past political attacks on Raila Odinga, including remarks in which Raila was disparaged and dismissed during previous election campaigns.

“William Ruto once called my late brother Raila a witchdoctor, that man of riddles, and even said they would escort him all the way back to Bondo,” Kalonzo said, expressing disbelief that ODM could now be considering a political alliance with UDA.

He insisted that Raila Odinga’s political legacy was firmly anchored in justice, fairness, respect for workers, and the protection of democratic values, arguing that these principles are incompatible with the current administration’s approach to governance.

“Yet today, some want us to believe that William Ruto and ODM share a common vision. Every Kenyan knows what Raila stood for: justice, fairness, the dignity of paychecks, and a democracy that protects the people, not power that preys on them,” he added.

Kalonzo urged ODM to align itself with the united opposition if it genuinely remains committed to Raila’s ideals, noting that the opposition remains open to dialogue and engagement. “If indeed they believe in the vision of Raila Odinga, then the first point of call should be the united opposition,” he said.

“We are ready to sit with Oburu, Sifuna, and everybody else. ”At the same time, Kalonzo challenged ODM to be honest with its supporters should it choose to pursue a partnership with UDA, warning that such a decision would amount to abandoning Raila’s political vision. “If they decide to join Ruto, then they should be honest enough to admit that they no longer share the vision and purpose of their fallen leader,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. UDA recently confirmed that President Ruto has been mandated to lead structured negotiations with ODM, while ODM’s Central Committee has tasked party leader Oburu Oginga with initiating talks, starting with UDA, alongside internal consultations with party members.
