Azimio la Umoja coalition led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the state for its actions in the ongoing demos.
Speaking in a press briefing on Wednesday, Kalonzo said that the violence, looting, and destruction of property on Tuesday were coordinated and sponsored by some individuals in power.
“We have observed the intention of yesterday’s well-organized, coordinated, and sponsored chaos was to undermine the Gen Z nationwide protests,” Kalonzo said.
“We Strongly Condemn the Sponsored Violent Protests and Support the Public demands for the resignation of Ruto Regime.”He added
Kalonzo noted that the youth raised their demands from #RejectTheFinanceBill2024 to #RutoMustGo alleging that Ruto and his henchmen-sponsored goons infiltrated with the sole intention of destabilizing the continued peaceful protests.
“These disgraceful, criminal, and illegal activities violate the right to peaceful protest, as provided in Article 37 of The Constitution of Kenya 2010,” Kalonzo went on.
He further mentioned despite a court injunction prohibiting the use of live ammunition, tear gas, and crude weapons to disperse protests, police continue to deploy arbitrary gunfire, resulting in innocent deaths and injuries.
