Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu Monday distributed hand washing tanks and more than 20,000 face masks in his constituency to help residents combat the deadly COVID-19.

Kimilu launched the distribution of items at his office in Mukuyuni town.

120 tanks were distributed alongside jerrycans of liquid soap to more than 20 market centres across all 4 wards in Kaiti constituency.

The tanks will be placed at Boda Boda stages, all open-air Markets, and vegetables markets. The Kaiti MP said the tanks will be used by residents and passengers to wash their hands to prevent the spread and infection of Covid19.

“I have decided to place handwashing tanks at Boda Boda stages because many people from various places alight and board motorbikes. This will enable them to clean their hands before boarding and alighting,” Kaiti MP said.

The youthful legislator said that he sourced money to purchase all these items from his friends and well-wishers through his Kimilu Foundation.

“We don’t have an allocation in the NGCDF for undertaking this type of project. The funds for buying the items were sourced by Kimilu Foundation,” The Kaiti MP added.

Residents said the initiative will help them to fight the spread of the epidemic.

“Bodaboda stages are visited by many people, these tanks will make people wash their hands frequently,” said Fredrick Nyamasyo, bodaboda rider.

“Business people are the people who should play a pivotal role in the fight against COVID-19, so they should always wear a face mask while attending customers to prevent the disease,” he said.

“We fear going closer to the people we serve in the in our shops. These protective gears will enable us to attend to them without fear,” said Ann Nduku, a fruit vendor.
