Justina Syokau speaks after Criticism of her 2025 Song

Kamba gospel artist Justina Syokau has sparked widespread discussion following the release of her latest song, 2025‘, on January 1.

The track, which celebrates the new year as a season of blessings and breakthroughs, has divided opinions among Kenyans. While some listeners embraced its positive message, others criticized it, demanding the song be taken down from YouTube.

In an interview with local media, Syokau addressed the backlash, urging her critics to approach the song with an open mind. “I encourage them to watch the video and point out what they don’t like. If the majority insists it should be deleted, I will consider their feedback,” she said.

The artist also reaffirmed her commitment to gospel music and her faith, expressing confidence in the song’s message of hope and prosperity.

However, the reactions online have been harsh. One critic, @Josh-sf7kf, said, ” Ushatuharibia mwaka wewe ni bad omen ungewacha tu Kwanzaa.”

Another one, @adewinchar5713 said, “Aliimba twendi twendi.” Despite the negativity, the song has been trending on YouTube and social media platforms, drawing attention to Syokau’s bold declarations for 2025.

The criticism stems from memories of 2020, when Syokau’s song ‘Twendi Twendi’ dubbed the year as one of divine favor, only for it to be marked by global turmoil, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Some Kenyans fear her new release might carry a similar ominous streak.

Reflecting on her personal journey, Syokau admitted that 2024 was a difficult year for her. She previously shared her struggles as a single mother, including financial challenges. Despite these hardships, the singer has remained steadfast in her faith and is optimistic about a brighter future. “This year, my focus is on serving the Lord through music and spreading a message of hope,” she said.

As Kenyans continue to debate the impact of her music, Syokau remains resolute. She hopes her new release will inspire listeners to embrace the year with positivity and faith. Whether or not the song will be removed, her focus remains on her ministry, encouraging others to trust in divine providence.
