IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati Tuesday met Machakos Senatorial aspirants to assure them of a free and fair poll as allegations emerged from some of the aspirants on plans to rig the hotly contested by-election.
Wiper party Kalonzo Musyoka had cautioned that Machakos county employees should not be allowed to take part in the polls as officials decrying that some of them had a role in the 2017 Gubernatorial elections.
According to Chebukati, the IEBC will make available a list of those hired to be poll officials and share it with all aspirants so that if any of them has an issue with a certain person they raise it with the IEBC.
“We have had a successful meeting on the preparedness for the By-election and the aspirants had a lot of issues which have been addressed. We are happy as a commission that IEBC in Machakos is prepared.” Chebukati said.
“The clerks were recruited competitively, sons and daughters from this region. Their names will be shared with the political parties registrar who will share with the parties and their aspirants. If there is anybody the aspirants or parties feel should not be on that list they should raise an issue and we will act accordingly.” He added.
Chebukati also revealed that they met the County security team led by County Commissioner Fredrick Ndunga and the county police commander and they were ready to provide the security during the By-election scheduled for 18th March.
