IEBC has revealed the by-election and timelines for activities that precede elections in Nguu/Masumba ward in Makueni County, Eldas in Wajir County, and Kiagu ward in Meru.
Political parties intending to participate in the by-election have been asked to present the names of the persons contesting and the date of the primaries on or before 4th August 2021.
The commission shall within 7 days after receiving the names of the candidates gazette the persons participating in the primaries. In case of disputes in party primaries, the parties have until 18th August to resolve them.
The 25th and 26th of August is when nomination papers shall be returned to the respective IEBC returning officers. The official campaign period is set to start from 25th August to 11th October 2021 from 7 am to 6 pm.
The polls in Eldas, Nguu/Masumba, and Kiagu will take place on the 14th of October.
The Nguu/Masumba ward by-election will see a supremacy battle between Kalonzo’s Wiper party, Muungano party of Governor Kibwana, and also UDA party and Maendeleo Chap Chap which all have expressed interest in the by-election.
Among the candidates who have declared their interest in the poll are Eshio Mwaiwa, Daniel Kivuva Musau, Urbanus Kioko Peter, and Peter Mwikya Kithendu.
Harris Ngui, Nguu/Masumba MCA was involved in a grisly road accident after the vehicle he was driving had a head-on collision with a lorry at Salama, along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway on the 15th of June 2021.
Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu declared the Nguu/Masumba ward seat vacant on Tuesday 6th July 2021.
