Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has said that since the advent of devolution he has created over 350,000 jobs in Machakos and brought in 300 new factories to Machakos. Mutua was speaking at a local TV station Monday.
“We have been able to create close to 350,000 jobs in Machakos. I have brought in over 300 new factories both local and international…” The Governor said.
Mutua was responding to a viewer who took him on over his earlier remarks while launching his presidential bid where he promised to create 5 million new jobs in just 3 years.
“I have brought in people who have invested in areas such as tourism, sports, and others. There has been an expansion and to be a pilot of what I can be able to do in Kenya. Jobs are not created by governments employing people it’s by growing the economic base especially SMEs.” The Governor added.
Below are some reactions to the remarks on the Machakos job creation remarks;
Martin Murithi said, “Over 300 factories in Machakos? Which Machakos are you talking about.”
Brian Oguta said, “350k jobs created by Governor Mutua in dreams. Our leaders are good at dreaming. It’s time they need to face reality.”
Twitter user Nyamache said, “If there were 350k jobs… kNbs ingekuwa imesema there’s a mass movement of people to Machakos County. 😂”
Julishwa a twitter user-added, “Its possible @DrAlfredMutua created 350,000 jobs. He didn’t say full-time office jobs. About factories, mkumbuke hadi Syokimau na Athi River ziko Machakos county.”
