How deadly Katangi accident cost UMOWA Sacco millions

UMOWA Sacco says that it has lost over 10 million since the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) suspended its license weeks ago.

Their license was canceled after one of their vehicles was involved in a grisly road accident at Katangi along Machakos-Kitui road that led to the loss of over 10 lives.

Ukambani Matatu Owners Welfare Association Secretary Onesmus Kyalo said that once their operations resume, they will be very strict with the drivers to avert road carnage.

“We will be very strict, overloading should be a thing of the past and before you risk the lives of people on the road think about your life too and the family you’ve left back at home,” said Kyalo.

“You have been trained so now any mistake you make, we will assume you did it intentionally in the past we would have assumed you didn’t know or you were never trained. By the time we are back on the road we will have lost over 10 million shillings if you have done your math well,” he added.

Mutuku spoke this during a refresher course for their drivers organized by NTSA at Machakos showground urging the drivers to be vigilant while on the road and be considerate of other road users.

He urged NTSA to conduct refresher courses for the drivers from time to time to enhance driver competence and reduce accidents.
