Machakos Deputy Governor actualizes Boy’s dream to join High School

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has given hope to a young boy from Tumba in Mumbuni North Ward after handing him a full High school scholarship.

Diezel Mumo did his KCPE at Manza Primary and got 349 marks and was called to join Kangundo High School.

Due to their family status, he could not join Form one. This prompted him to go to the celebrations at People’s park and seek assistance to join High school.

“I heard that there were celebrations at People’s Park and the Governor would attend so I told my mum that I was going to go and try my luck if I was going to get any assistance to get school fees, so I put on my uniform and went,” said Diezel.

“When I arrived, I asked if there was anyone from Mumbuni North and I was shown some ladies who took me to the MC of the event who later introduced me to the Deputy Governor and through that now I will be joining Form one courtesy of the DG,” he added.

Addressing the press Diezel’s mother Eunice Mueni could not hide her joy narrating how she has gone through trouble after she parted ways with her husband and was left to take care of her three kids.

“After I parted ways with my husband we rented a house at Tumba, and it has been hectic taking care of these kids because we do not have the resources. When Diezel did his exams I did not know what to do,” said Eunice.

“Yesterday after he told me he was going to People’s park I did not discourage him. Through his determination now he is able to go to school and I am grateful to our Deputy Governor for coming to my aid,” she added.

Peninah Wambua who comes from Mumbuni North said that the boy spotted her during the celebrations and through that she and other ladies linked him to the Deputy Governor.

“Yesterday during the Women’s day celebration I saw this boy and I knew him so I and other ladies linked him to the Deputy Governor,” Peninah said.

“This family is going through a lot and even as we speak they are owed rent where they live and if they could get help with accommodation we really would appreciate it,” she added.

Kavindu seeks compensation for Machakos families that lost loved ones after KPLC disconnected power in Hospitals

Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu is calling on KPLC to compensate families who lost their kin in hospitals due to power disconnections.

Speaking in Senate, Kavindu noted that in 2022 power was disconnected at Machakos Level 5 hospital resulting in the death of patients and children in incubators.

She noted that the power company should be held accountable for the deaths and the families compensated.

“I remember last year I received a call from someone whose patient was on oxygen at Machakos Level 5 hospital. Electricity had been disconnected for two days and by the time I arrived at the hospital the patient had died. Before going to the hospital I called the Minister for Energy in the county and urged him to ensure power is reinstated in the hospital,” said Kavindu.

“When I arrived, the power was back meaning the blackout was intentional. I would like to urge the power company to liaise with the County before disconnecting because the County can pay. It was very wrong for them to disconnect electricity at the hospitals,” she added.

Kavindu said she is collecting the records of people and children who died at Machakos hospitals due to power disconnection.

“When the report is ready I will present the report to the Senate because these people should be compensated by those involved, Kenya power or anyone else,” She added.

The Senator called upon other senators to do a follow-up in their counties and ensure those affected are compensated.

She urged County Governments to ensure they pay their electricity bills earlier to avoid disconnection.

Kavindu also called for County Governments to invest in automatic generators that can be relied on when power is off to avoid mishaps.

Major General Ndolo, Kamba man who almost dethroned President Kenyatta

0

In 2023, Kenya will be celebrating 60 years of independence and it goes without saying that the country has come a long way.

Whenever a topic about Coup de tat comes up in any discussion everyone’s mind switches to 1982.

Unknown to many there was another coup in 1971 that was planned by a Kamba man Major General Joseph Ndolo who headed the military.

If the coup would have succeeded then Ndolo would have replaced Kenyatta as President.

The Government got wind of the planned coup which was to happen on April 8th.

Six men named to be Ndolo’s co-conspirators were jailed in June of the same year among them former Yatta Member of Parliament Gideon Mutiso.

The ex-MP during the trial confessed to having written the speech to be read by Ndolo if the coup succeeded.

Mutiso said he accepted to be part of the plan because Ndolo was going to take over from Kenyatta.

Ndolo was born in 1919 and rose through the ranks to make history as the first Kenyan to head the army.

He was made Army Commander in 1966 while a British held the position of Chief of Defence Staff.

Before the coup Ndolo had been grumbling about corruption in the military and civilians being given weapons. He also complained of tribalism in Public Service.

Questions have been raised as to why Ndolo was only sacked and never jailed if indeed he was involved in the coup.

It later emerged that Kenyatta did not prosecute Ndolo because he thought he(Ndolo) was misguided and stupid and also the country had to take into account his 37 years of service.

Daniel Moi the then vice president also didn’t believe Ndolo would pull a coup on his own and suspected he was getting advice from someone else.

Instead, he would be allowed to retire peacefully and with that would remain loyal to the administration.

After his exit Ndolo was replaced by General Jackson Mulinge. Ndolo died in 1984 after a grisly accident along Mombasa road.

Mlolongo: Residents complain of uncollected garbage since last year

Locals in Mlolongo have appealed to the County Government of Machakos through the Solid Waste Management Department to ensure garbage bins in the area are emptied.

In an exclusive interview with Mauvoo News, some of the locals led by Daniel Mwanza, The 4AS CBO patron said that the bins have not been emptied since September last year.

Due to this the dirt and waste are scattered all over posing a risk to the locals mostly children who go out to play.

Mwanza noted that they have tried calling for the issue to be solved but their cries have fallen on deaf ears.

“Our kids play here but there is litter all over, not once or twice you will see a kid retrieve a ball from the dumping site. The waste has been here since last year and our cries to have the bins emptied have not been heard,” said Mwanza.

“There is a Cholera outbreak in some parts of Ukambani and we know very well a clean environment is key to ensuring the disease is kept at bay. We are fearing for our health and that of our children,” he added.

The patron said that after so much pestering they were notified that the lorry carrying the bins had a mechanical issue.

“But will we continue to live in dirt and murky waters around yet the Government can do something about it? We want a solution to be found and it has been so long,” Mwanza added.

His sentiments were echoed by another local who called upon the Ministry of Health to investigate and take action on plot owners releasing raw sewage on the roads.

Last week, a section of traders in Machakos Town also decried uncollected garbage. Missed the story? check it out below;
