Governor Wavinya Reshuffles Cabinet, Kicks out ally

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Tuesday, 7th May 2024 re-shuffled her cabinet again for the second time changes that affected five chief officers.

Through a letter from Dr. Muya Ndambuki, the County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Justus Kasivu was transferred from the Department of Roads and Transport to the Department of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health.

Kasivu will also act in the Department of Climate Change in the Ministry of Water, Irrigation, Environment and Climate Change where the outgoing Chief Officer, Zipporah Mutungu was deployed to the Department of Revenue. Dr. Wickliffe Miyienda who was the Chief Officer for Medical Services was transferred to the Department of Roads and Transport.

Wavinya left out her close ally suspended the chief officer for Education Maureen Mwende from the new postings and replaced her with Bernice Kioko who has been serving at the Department of Tourism.

The Governor also moved Col. Gideon Wathi Mbithi for the second time in a row this time landing at Tourism from the Innovation and Industrialisation docket where he was moved to after an alleged physical encounter with Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka. The retired military officer was previously Chief Officer for Inspectorate and Emergencies.

Also affected was Bruce Isika from the Department of Citizen Engagement replaced Col. Wathi Mbithi in the Innovation and Industrialization department. Mike Jace Senga was also deployed from the Department of Revenue to take over as the new Chief Officer of the Department of Citizen Engagement.

Dr. Ndambuki said that the changes are effective immediately, and ordered the affected officials to hand over and move by Monday, May 13.
