Governor Wavinya Issues Stern Warning to Striking Doctors

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has vowed to sack all striking health workers in the County.

Speaking during a church service in Makutano AIC in Mwala Sub-county, Wavinya said that the strike by clinical officers and doctors was halted by the court Friday and all of them were to report back to work.

She alleged that the majority of the doctors in the hospitals were not attending to patients thus derailing the health system in the county.

“A month ago my chief officer Kasivu and I delved into the health system and realized that we were paying lots of money to people who did not show up to work and when we asked for a show cause, some decided to marshal others so that they can on strike and I went to the court and the strike was halted,” said Governor Wavinya.

“I’m just telling doctors to work according to the law, you are now disrespecting me. I don’t have an issue with that. Let’s work according to the law, I went to court and they were told to return to work. I can now sack those who will not return to work. If you do not show up for work be rest assured that you are going home. I cannot be paying people and they are not going to work,” she added.

On Friday the employment court in Machakos High Court gave an order that all doctors go back to work suspending their strike. On Saturday Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi gave an update on the situation saying that the majority of the doctors had resumed work.
