Governor Mutula asks Government to start fund for Mango farmers

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has asked the National Government through the Ministry of Agriculture to begin a special fund meant for Mango farmers.

Speaking during the launch of the first National Mango conference in Wote, Mutula noted that mango farmers need to be boosted with funds just like coffee and tea farmers.

He added that they need loans to expand their farming and enhance Mango farming.

The Governor disclosed that he is in discussion with the Agriculture and Foods Authority on how Mango farmers can be given money.

“Funding and giving loans to Mango farmers will give them hope and boost production, “Mutula said.

Mutula also noted the need for Agriculture to be supported stating that many families depend on it for livelihood.

The Governor disclosed that Makueni County is the leading producer of Mangoes in the country.

Despite that, the farmers are yet to fully benefit from Mango production.

He promised his government will continue to do its best to ensure the Mango farmers are supported disclosing that it has already made tremendous investment in unlocking the product value chain.
