Former Kitui MCA among 3 arrested Impersonating EACC Officials

The EACC has arrested three serial imposters among them James Mbuvi Kula, a former MCA of Kyululu ward, Kitui and his accomplices, Mike Muthami Kasingi, and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe, who have been posing as senior EACC investigators in an elaborate scheme to extort money from government officials and parastatal heads.

According to a statement released by the EACC via their official X platform, the arrest was made at Three Hut Bar in Komarock while the suspects were waiting to prey on a targeted complainant who had outsmarted the trio, leading to their capture by EACC detectives.

“Former Kyululu Ward, MCA, James Mbuvi Kula, Mike Muthami Kasingi, and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe were finally nabbed today by EACC sleuths at Three Hut bar in Komarock as they waited to pounce on a complainant who luckily had outsmarted them” read the statement.

A search conducted by investigators uncovered 12 mobile phones, 22 SIM cards, and eight notebooks containing names and details of their intended victims, further exposing the extent of their fraudulent activities.

The arrest follows a series of complaints from victims who reported that the suspects had been impersonating EACC officials and using intimidation tactics to solicit bribes. The Commission has now issued a public warning, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to such scams.

“The Commission appeals to the public to be cautious. EACC investigators have official job cards, which they produce for identification while on duty,” the statement read.

The statement further clarified that the Commission only summons persons of interest through official written communication, requiring them to appear at the EACC headquarters, regional offices, or designated police stations.

The three suspects are now in custody as investigations continue, with the Commission vowing to crack down on fraudsters exploiting its name for personal gain.
