A 17-year-old boy was rescued after attempting suicide in Kibwezi West, Makueni County.
The young man a form two student at Ithumula secondary school imbibed poison after being sent home due to school fees balance.
According to the letter he had written he had decided due to the shame of having no one to pay his school fee.
The boy the sixth born out of eight lost his mother years ago and blamed his grandmother for failing to pay his school fees.
Due to this, he has been compelled to frequently travel home to secure school fees, leaving him exhausted.
“I am sorry for doing this but I cannot bear to go back to school with all this shame. Since there is no one to pay my fees I have decided to take poison, Of I die bury me near my mother’s tomb,” the suicide note read in part.
Luckily he was rescued and rushed to Amref Kibwezi Hospital where he is currently recuperating.
