Dr. Alfred Mutua faced the Appointment committee with a mix of confidence and controversy after being nominated as Cabinet Secretary position for Labour and Social Protection.
In a bold statement, Mutua touted his achievements during his decade-long tenure as governor, claiming that Machakos county residents could access ambulances within an astonishing 3 to 5 minutes.
“We had one of the fastest response rates in Africa,” Mutua asserted, adding that his efforts earned him an award as the best governor on the continent.
However, these claims were met with skepticism from Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui, who served as a legislator during Mutua’s governorship
“When Mutua was governor, I was an MP, and all this sounds like a movie to me,” Mbui remarked, clearly astonished by the narrative presented.
Mutua stood firm, insisting that only the people of Machakos could truly attest to his track record.
He acknowledged the challenges he faced from critics throughout his tenure but emphasized that the electorate’s decision to reelect him for a second term spoke volumes about their satisfaction with his leadership.
“The people of Machakos were impressed that they reelected me for a second time,” Mutua stated, underscoring his continued support among his constituents.
