Dr. Mercy Mwangangi has been appointed as the new CEO of the Social Health Authority (SHA) by the Cabinet Secretary of Health, Aden Duale
The appointment comes at a time when the authority has been facing a backlash from Kenyans.
According to the letter, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi was among 92 applicants who applied for the position. Twelve were shortlisted, and she secured the chance to lead the authority.
“The Ministry congratulates Dr. Mwangangi on her appointment and wishes her all the best as she becomes the first Chief Executive Officer for the Social Health Authority. We are confident that she has what it takes to steer SHA and deliver on the mandate of SHA,” read a part of the letter.
“Her appointment follows the conclusion of a competitive recruitment processwhich saw a total of 92 Applicants out of which 12 Candidates were shortlisted and interviewed,” the letter went on.
Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, who is the daughter of former Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi, was working at Amref Health Africa before her appointment.
Dr. Mercy Mwangangi rose to the limelight after she was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as a Chief Administrative Secretary(CAS) in the Ministry of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
