The Ministry of Health has announced the appointment of Dr. Andrew M. Mulwa as the new Head of the National AIDS and STI Control Division, effective immediately.
The appointment was announced in a letter dated December 20, 2024. Principal Secretary Harry K. Kimtai, CBS, signed the appointment, under the State Department for Medical Services.
Dr. Mulwa is a Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services. He returns to the Ministry from a secondment and is set to take the helm of one of Kenya’s most critical health divisions.
His leadership will be pivotal in addressing the country’s efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, which continue to pose significant public health challenges.
Principal Secretary Harry K. Kimtai emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth transition as Dr. Mulwa assumes his new role. The Ag. Deputy Director General and other senior officials have been directed to facilitate the handover process. This is to enable uninterrupted operations within the division.
Mulwa was KEMSA’s Acting CEO from May 2023 to 2024. He was also instrumental during the impeachment of the second deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a Key witness.
