Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Dr. Alfred Nganga Mutua, has hinted at a political return in Machakos, raising speculation of a potential run for elective office.
Speaking on Friday at Kambai Village, Muisuni, Kangundo Central Ward, during the burial of the late Mama Pascalia Syokau Senga, wife of Kangundo MCA Dickson Maundu Senga, Mutua apologized for his absence from the county and reassured residents of his commitment to their development.
“The last time I visited Kangundo, residents engaged me in a lengthy discussion, some even lecturing me. They asked where I had gone and why I appeared to have left them,” Mutua said.
He pledged to work closely with the community to address stalled projects and areas that are not moving in the right direction.
“I want to say I am sorry — I have not abandoned you. I am coming back to Machakos, and together we will work to correct the things that are off track,” he added.
Mutua did not specify which seat he intends to contest, but speculation points to a possible bid for the Machakos Senate, a move seen as strategic for maintaining political influence in the county..
Should Mutua pursue a Machakos Senate seat, he is expected to square it out with current Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthàma, former Machakos CECM for Health Dr. Daniel Yumbya, and other aspirants who have already thrown their hats into the ring.
