In a tragic and shocking incident last night in Mwatungo Village, Kithyoko Sub-location, Masinga Sub-county, a 36-year-old man set ablaze a hay store, a tractor, and several other structures before taking his own life by hanging himself in a nearby tree.
The deceased, who was not identified immediately, had been a herdsman in the homestead for many years.
According to local residents, he had recently been dismissed from his position. Despite this, he returned to the homestead yesterday and spent the night there.
In the middle of the night, he allegedly committed the acts of arson, causing extensive damage to the property.
Neighbors were awakened by the sound of crackling flames and the sight of the burning structures.
Police from Kithyoko are currently at the scene, conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
They are also working to establish a clear motive for the man’s actions. Local authorities have urged residents to come forward with any information that might aid the investigation. The body has since been taken to Matuu level four hospital mortuary.
