Danish Embassy investigating Machakos over loss of Danida funds

The Royal Danish Embassy through Ernst and Young audit firm is investigating Machakos County over unaccounted 2.5 million shillings .This is according to a letter from the Royal Danish Embassy to the CEO council of Governors dated 23rd October 2019.

Since 2014, Danida has been providing funding to all level 2 and level 3 hospitals for operations and maintenance. For the first half of financial year 2019/2020 Mauvoo News has learnt that 468 million has since been transferred to the National Treasury.

However, the subsequent transfer to counties is conditional and will be based upon adequate utilisation of previous financial year funds.

A draft audit report, places the counties in four categories. Group 1 has 20 counties which have adequately used the funds wired to them and disbursed them to the hospitals. According to Danida, these counties will receive 2019/2020 Financial Year.

Group 2 still had unspent funds as at 30th June 2018 in their accounts and they had not been be spent. The embassy wants this counties to ensure this money goes to the hospitals or refunded back to them by 8th of November.

Group 3 has 11 counties which did not provide sufficient information and they are required to provide it by 1st November 2018.

For Machakos County investigations are still on after the county failed to account for 2.5 million.

The current program ends in December 2020 and If Machakos fails to account for the funds they are likely to miss out on the 2019/2020 Financial year allocation.
