Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has issued a scathing critique of Ukambani political leaders aligning themselves with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom he described as a spent force with no influence in government.
Speaking in Kitui, Dr. Mutua dismissed Gachagua as “impeached and irrelevant,” accusing him of perpetuating hostility toward the Kamba community during his time in office.
He criticized leaders banking on Gachagua for political mileage, calling their strategy “a futile daydream.”
“When Gachagua held power, he openly despised the Kamba people, expressing his disdain in his speeches,” Mutua said.
“Whenever President William Ruto proposed development projects for our region, Gachagua would block them, arguing that we didn’t vote for the government. Those projects were then diverted to other areas.”He went on.
Mutua, whose party played a pivotal role in the impeachment process that ousted Gachagua, expressed no regret over his actions.
“Yes, I am the one who sent Gachagua packing,” he boldly declared. “He had no goodwill for the Kamba community. Now that he’s out of government, aligning with him will not bring the development our people deserve.”
Drawing parallels, Mutua praised Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s strategic partnerships over the years, emphasizing the importance of staying close to the government for the sake of regional development.
He further urged religious leaders in Ukambani to convene a meeting of the region’s political leaders to deliberate on a unified approach to development.
“The Kamba people need focused leadership, not blind allegiances,” he said, calling for a collective commitment to championing the community’s interests.
