Tala: Traders and Schools hit hard by ongoing rains

Traders and Schools in Tala Town, Machakos County are counting losses after heavy rains resulting in floods.

Speaking to Mauvoo News the traders blamed Tala/Kangundo Municipality under the County Government of Machakos for failing to clean up drainages in the area.

They said that the drainage system in the area is poor and it was the main cause of floods in the area.

“Today have woken up to losses, my shop is full of water because of the rains and now I can not even sell some of the foodstuffs that got wet so I just have to throw them,” said one of the traders.

“The County Government has not cleaned the drainages in the town which makes them block because of dirt during heavy rains. What hurts most is seeing what you have worked for go to waste because of negligence,” he added.

Learners were not left behind as St. Marys Tala Boys Primary pupils had to vacate seven classes because they could not be accessed as water had entered.

Speaking to Mauvoo News, the Headteacher Madam Nyigi asked the County Government and also the National government to chip in and raise the ground for them so as to ensure the pupils learn well.

Many businesses in the Town have closed due to heavy rains experienced in the area.
