Body of a 24-year-old buried without postmortem exhumed in Yatta


The body of a 24-year-old man who was buried two weeks ago was exhumed Tuesday in Kitengela, Yatta Subcounty of Machakos county.

The man who was known as Makau Mutinda Kamunde is said to have gone missing and was found dead in a ditch in Matuu town on 5th May 2020 and the cause of death wasn’t established immediately.

When he died his family buried him immediately without conducting a post-mortem to establish the exact cause of his death.

The exercise of exhuming the body was conducted by government pathologist Johansen Odour in conjunction with Yatta sub-county Directorate of Criminal investigations officer Masake Wanga and his counterpart Yatta sub-county police commander Mary Njoki.

Addressing journalists after the exhumation and postmortem, government pathologist Johansen Odour said the man was hit on the head as he had some head injuries.

“The deceased was hit on the head because we found some head injuries and the brain is swollen. There were also injuries in the abdomen in the upper and lower limbs, ” said Oduor.

He further noted that the case needed investigations by the police because after the postmortem it was a clear indication that the man was murdered and he didn’t drown as it was indicated earlier.

The family which said had high hopes in their son was relieved as they said now the mystery in their son’s death was revealed and finally, he could rest in peace.

The body will be buried again as the police now commence investigations leading to the murder of the man.
