Blow to Machakos town con mechanics as stakeholders join hands to weed them out

For several years now, motorists have fallen prey to con mechanics in Machakos Town Grogon area.

The unsuspecting motorists who are mostly new and passing by the area are told of a problem like leaking oil, they then are duped to pay for spares that are not required and if they are not careful, the con mechanics just return the same used part robbing motorists in broad daylight.

A lot of Kenyans have fallen victim and this has hurt the reputation of even the genuine mechanics in the area.

Machakos County Security officers felt that it was too much for the fake mechanics to continue stealing from innocent people, forcing them to start a serious crackdown last week.

This caught the attention of Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka who some of the con mechanics used to hide under his name.

Munyaka organized public participation at Machakos Grogon area, where he denied that he has been ganging with the fake mechanics, saying that he can’t allow such people to continue with such business in his constituency.

“It had reached a very bad level. This is very serious. I can’t allow such. They have been using my name without my attention. I can’t support lazy, fake, thieves in my Constituency. I support fully that no fake mechanic should be seen anywhere around Machakos. We will take proper action on them,” Munyaka said.

Munyaka condemned such behaviors, saying that there is a need to clean up the area promising to stand with genuine mechanics.

Machakos Deputy OCS Okoth asked the genuine mechanics to open their eyes widely and report such people so as to help the security department in doing away with the con mechanics.

“Don’t hide these people in your midst. Let us know all these people so that we arrest them and take them to court. We are on duty 24/7. Such issues are not only here. We will make sure that the entire Machakos is safe. Not just Grogon alone,” The Deputy OCS said.

At least 16 fake con mechanics’ names were handed to the security officials for action to be taken.
