Blow to Machakos Speaker as Court reinstates 9 suspended MCAs

Machakos Speaker Anne Kiusya has been dealt a blow after the High Court in Machakos ordered 9 MCAs who were suspended on Wednesday to be allowed back to the Assembly.

The speaker had suspended 9 MCAs for 28 sitting days, blaming them for the chaos that erupted in the Assembly in April, leading to the suspension of sittings indefinitely, and more recently on Tuesday this week.

“Pending the hearing and determination of this application, a conservatory order be and hereby issued restraining the respondents whether by themselves or their officers, agencies or proxies from barring, excluding, obstructing, intimidating or otherwise interfering with petitioners access to the Machakos county Assembly premises or preventing their participation in plenary, committee sittings, debates or any other assembly business.” The court ruling read in part.

However, the court ruling was conditional that the 9 MCAs must maintain law and order, failure to which the court would do away with the reinstatement orders.

The reinstated MCAs are Majority leader Nicholas Nzioka, Deputy Speaker Stephen Nzue Mwanthi, ousted Minority leader Judas Mbili Ndawa, Felix Mutunga Ngui, Raphael Lucky Nzau, Charles Mbuva, Phoebe Koki Mawa, Anna Nthenya Ndilo, and Catherine Kyee.

On Wednesday, Katangi MCA Felix Ngui was injured and his clothes torn after he tried to access the assembly after suspension. Missed the story, check it out below;
