Kalonzo Musyoka and The Wiper Party have been dealt a major blow. This is after the Wiper candidate in the Nguu/Masumba by-election Eshio Mwaiwa emerged last in the tough contest.

Timothy Maneno Independent candidate won with 2,902 votes representing 43 percent of the votes cast. Daniel Kivuva Musau of UDA was second with 2,219 votes representing 33 percent of the votes cast. Wiper’s Eshio Maundu Mwaiwa was last with 1,614 votes representing 24 percent of the votes cast.

This comes even after Wiper Party leader and OKA principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula on Monday led campaigns for Eshio Mwaiwa.

The by-election results pundits argue are displaying Kalonzo’s political grip of the Lower Eastern Region.

In October 2019, Maendeleo Chap Chap Party also floored the Wiper Party in the Mutonguni Ward by-elections. This was despite the Wiper Party leader and several elected leaders camping in the Ward to popularise their party candidate for over a week.

Most recently in March 2021, Wiper candidate in Kitise/Kithuki by-election floored his opponent Joseph Kioko alias Think Tower of Muungano party by garnering 3,892 votes while Kioko garnered 878 votes.
