Auditor General Puts Makueni Constituency on the spot over 39.6M bursary allocation

Makueni Constituency NG-CDF is on the spot following a recent report by the Auditor-General on bursary allocation and other matters.

The report, covering the financial year ending June 30, 2023, flagged various irregularities including in the disbursement of bursaries, raising questions about the accuracy of financial records among other issues.

According to the report Kshs. 29,997,600 for bursaries to secondary schools, Kshs. 9,413,000 to tertiary institutions, and Kshs. 215,000 to special schools cannot be accounted for. This is because acknowledgment letters from the beneficiary institutions were missing, casting doubt on the validity of the bursary disbursements totaling Kshs. 39,625,600.

The 2022/2023 Financial Year Audit report also questioned 1.8 Million incurred as committee expenses was not supported by payment vouchers, Committee minutes, and attendance registers.

The Auditor also pointed out discrepancies in other areas such as committee expenses, fixed assets, and project balances, calling into question the overall financial accountability of the Makueni NGCDF.
