Machakos, Kenya – Governor Wavinya Ndeti has launched a blistering attack on Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, accusing him of misdeeds during his tenure as Chief of Staff in the Machakos County Government under former Governor Alfred Mutua.
Speaking during the launch of a rural empowerment program in Matungulu North Ward, Matungulu Sub-county, Governor Wavinya alleged that Mutuse was part of a clique that looted public resources and enriched themselves at the expense of Machakos residents.
“There are people who stole our money and went on to build big hotels. Before they got those positions, they couldn’t even afford a cup of tea,” she said, in a pointed reference to the MP.
Wavinya further claimed that Mutuse fostered a culture of fear among county employees during his time in office, alleging that many staff members were intimidated and unable to work freely.
“Let him concentrate on Kibwezi West and leave Machakos affairs to us. Our staff can now work without fear. They interact with me respectfully and openly,” she added.
The Governor used the event to unveil a wide-ranging rural empowerment initiative aimed at promoting sustainable development and restoring dignity to local communities — a sharp contrast, she said, to the “corrupt and oppressive” legacy left by previous administrations.
The program targets farmer groups and includes the distribution of Galla goats, improved kienyeji chicks, chick mash, fingerlings, fruit tree seedlings, fertilizers, insecticides, and hermetic storage bags.
“We are not just giving handouts; we are investing in the future of our communities,” Wavinya emphasized.
She urged beneficiaries to take full ownership of the resources provided and work towards building a more resilient and food-secure Machakos.
“This is your project — own it, protect it, and let it grow. Together, we are building a stronger, more self-reliant Machakos,” she said.
Efforts to reach MP Mutuse for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
