Kitui: Race Against Time to Complete Ithookwe Stadium for Mashujaa Day

Preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations have officially kicked off in Kitui County, with visible works already underway at the Ithookwe Stadium, the venue that will host the national event.

Construction of the modern stadium at Ithookwe grounds has begun, with the project expected to be completed within 100 days.

Speaking during an inspection tour, Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich urged the contractor to fast-track the works to meet the set deadline.

“We have come here today as the national celebrations technical committee to assess the preparations for Mashujaa Day. Kitui was not able to host Madaraka Day because of the lack of a proper stadium, but now we want to change that,” said Rotich.

Other key facilities under renovation in preparation for the event include the Ithookwe Airstrip and the Kitui County Commissioner’s residence, which will host the official reception after the celebrations.

The new stadium will have a seating capacity of 10,000, with several top leaders and dignitaries from the national and county government expected to grace the national event.

Kitui CECM for Lands, Fredrick Kimanga, assured that all involved departments are working in close coordination to ensure the county delivers a successful event.

“We expect everything to be ready by October 20,” said Kimanga.
