Former Machakos gubernatorial aspirant Nzioka Waita has addressed concerns over his fluency in the Kamba language, a factor that some believe cost him victory in the 2022 elections.
Speaking on his 2027 bid, Waita acknowledged the criticism but dismissed the idea that language proficiency should be a deciding factor in leadership.
According to Waita, the county needs a leader with a vision ready to transform the lives of the people.
“Will speaking Kamba build roads or improve healthcare?” he asked, questioning why linguistic ability was prioritized over his development agenda.
However, he lightheartedly assured voters that he is learning the language and will be fluent by the next election.
He also cautioned residents against falling into the trap of party politics, urging them to vote based on competence rather than political affiliations.
“These young men and women you’re seeing here looking calm and humbled are relying on us to make this county better, and if we fail, then they will take the initiative and do it by force; they are not stupid, just watching what we are doing in silence,” Waita cautioned.
Waita added that he is willing to work with any leader to advance the interests of the Machakos people.
Waita spoke at AIC Bomani during the ordination of reverend Joh Kalovoto.
