Safety officer at Makueni Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) John Gudo has disclosed that 6 people have died of electrocution in Makueni in the last 2 years.

He stated that many of these incidents are caused by trees that have grown and touched power lines, buildings, and also human activities near power lines.

Gudo asked residents to ensure tall trees that may pose danger are brought down. However, on trees that have touched power lines, he urged them to engage officers from the company to cut the trees in a bid to avoid accidents.

“In Makueni over the last two years, we have lost six members of the public who have been electrocuted. The issues in Makueni county are tree cutting and rotten poles falling which we are addressing,” he said.

He urged residents to be vigilant and avoid activities near these lines that may endanger their lives.

Early May, a 25-year-old man died after being electrocuted in Vombo area, Makindu sub-county. The company has since promised to compensate the family of the young man.

Shockingly a few days later a cow was electrocuted at the same place.
