3 people died on the spot after being involved in a grisly road accident at King’atuani area, Masii, along Machakos-Kitui Road.
Confirming the accident Mwala Subcounty Base Commander Jack Ila said that the accident involved a 14 seater matatu and a lorry after the Matatu which was heading to Kitui from Machakos rammed into the stationary lorry from behind.
“The accident happened at Masii in an area known as King’atuani involving a 14 seater Matatu which was heading towards Kitui and rammed into the rear of a lorry in front of it. We have three fatalities and quite a number of injured passengers,” said the Base Commander.
It is said that the 14 seater matatu was carrying an excess number of passengers contrary to the rules that were set by the Government on matters transport.
“We are yet to establish the exact number of people who were in the matatu but as of now some are still at the scene trying to ensure everything is okay as investigations are being launched,” he added.
Those injured were rushed to Masii Health Centre and others Machakos Level 5 Hospital while bodies of the three were taken to Machakos Level 5 Mortuary.
2 more people succumbed while receiving treatment bringing the death toll of the Thursday accident to five.
On Tuesday, two people died in the same area after a personal car was involved in an accident with a motorbike. The two were a Boda Boda rider and his passenger.
