5 arrested in connection with a car theft syndicate in Machakos county


2 men and 3 mechanics who are suspected to be part of a car theft syndicate in Machakos County have been arrested in Matungulu sub-county of Machakos County.

According to Matungulu Subcounty Police Commander Wilmot Mwakio, the suspects are said to have been arrested after they were involved in a carjacking incident that occurred in Masii, Mwala sub-county on Tuesday.

“We have arrested five suspects who are being interrogated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officers at the Matungulu Subcounty Police Division Headquarters at KBC in Malaa after they were involved in a carjacking incident at Masii in Mwala sub-county,” the Matungulu police commander said.

According to the OCPD, the two suspects were reported to have blocked the man who was driving within Masii Township attacked, hijacked him, and sped off towards Kangundo road from Masii, abandoning the vehicle at Koma shopping center along Kangundo road but after the matter was reported at KBC police station investigations commenced where they found the suspects driving a Subaru with the owners Driving License.

The man reported the matter to the KBC police station in Matungulu sub-county leading to the suspects’ arrest. Multiple sources hinted that the victim might have been carjacked at gunpoint and that some firearms had also been recovered from the suspects.

The sub-county police boss said though he wasn’t aware whether any firearms had been recovered, there were possibilities since the suspects’ grilling had yielded lots of fruits. The area DCIO was investigating the incident.

He said the two suspects divulged information which led to the mechanics’ arrests. The mechanics might have worked on the complainant’s vehicle that was yet to be traced.

Mwakio added the suspects claimed that the vehicle in question was in Nairobi. All the suspects are locked up at the KBC police station as police intensify the investigations.

The sub-county police boss further said that they will hunt down any suspect involved in Car thefts in the region sending a stern warning to the offenders.
