‎2027 Politics: Makau Names Running mate Choice in Gubernatorial Bid

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has announced his choice of a running mate for the 2027 Machakos gubernatorial race, pledging to partner with a youth under the age of 30.

The declaration, made during a public address in his constituency, signals Makau’s commitment to inclusive and progressive leadership.

Addressing locals during a prize-giving day, Makau emphasized that his decision is both symbolic and strategic, aimed at injecting fresh energy, digital expertise, and innovation into county leadership.

“2027 nikisimama, ninapopigania kiti ya ugavana ya Machakos, nawahakikishia nyinyi ma Gen Z, ma youths of Machakos—my running mate will be under 30 years,” he declared.

Makau said involving young people in decision-making processes is no longer optional, calling it a necessity for meaningful transformation in governance.

“Ni lazima masilahi ya vijana yaangaliwe. Hatuwezi kila saa kuwaambia, you are the leaders of tomorrow. Tomorrow is now!” he said, drawing loud applause.

He further promised that, if elected, 50% of his cabinet would comprise Gen Zs and women, a bold commitment that places youth and gender equity at the core of his campaign.

“Gen Zs, I’m going to work with you. And my cabinet will be 50% Gen Zs and women,” he added.

As the political landscape begins to shift, attention now turns to who Makau will unveil as his youthful running mate—and how this bold move will reshape Machakos’ political future.
