Two people accused of breaking and stealing in shops at Resort village, Site Estate in Kitui town were yesterday lynched by angry residents.
Resort village elder Solomon Kimanzi confirming the incident said those robbers had been a threat to locals in the area for a long time, adding that they broke into several residential houses including where he stays leaving residents in Resort area terrified.
“They invaded our plot and broke the padlock at around four o’clock and when they realized we are awake, they disappeared. A few hours later, I heard they were lynched by locals for stealing their properties within the area,” Kimanzi told Mauvoo News.
The village elder disclosed that the robbers been harassing locals especially those who rear poultry, own shops hence paralyzing businesses in Kitui.
He warned locals with such behavior, that they will not escape the government, and that investigation is ongoing to arrest all culprits.
Their remains were taken to Kitui referral hospital mortuary as Kitui police launch an investigation to arrest and convict their counterparts who could have escaped.
Cases of robbery in Kitui and Mwingi have been on the rise since the president-imposed dusk to dawn curfew and businesses have incurred losses as a result.
