Two men masquerading as Machakos County Government enforcement officers were Saturday arrested in Muthwani, Mavoko sub-county.
The duo is accused of extorting building owners before being noticed and arrested.
The incident was confirmed by Anthony Mutuku, Chief officer Department of Lands in Machakos County Government.
Mutuku said that the two are held at Mavoko police station awaiting arraignment in court.
“We have arrested two individuals who were caught impersonating County enforcement officers. The two have been terrorizing the locals by obtaining money, purporting to have the capacity to approve and supervise constructions,” Mutuku said.
“This has been going on in this area for quite some time and after a very intensive crackdown, we have managed to nab these two. I can confirm that we are processing to have them charged before court,” he added.
Mutuku confirmed that a lot of residents had been complaining about the said physical planning officers.
He observed that the crackdown will continue to root out every fake officer conning the locals.
